Abstract

The paper presented belongs to the line of research of History and Historiography of Education and includes partial advances of an ongoing study. The objective of this paper is to present the background that frames the birth of the COBACH, an upper middle-level subsystem in the country that has its foundation in the state of Chihuahua in 1973. This study takes a journey from the beginnings of the Mexican high school at a national and regional level, until the diversification of Upper Middle Education in the seventies, which is where this institution emerges. For investigation purposes there were used documentary and oral sources that allowed to track information about the political, social and economic scenarios that were important in the history of this educational level, in addition to identifying the causes that led to its creation and the social and political motivations that were presented in its establishment.
