Abstract

This work briefly describes identified aspects in relation to the textbook and reflects on its current role in the teaching-learning process at Higher Education, in the area of engineering. The relevance of appropriating a methodology that allows to gather reliable information in the face of the current phenomenon of the textbook function is raised. As a foundation there is Didactic Engineering and three relevant aspects that emerge from its theory: epistemology, didactics and technology. The interest in the actors involved in the teaching-learning process is pointed out: teachers and students, and their experiences. Within the didactic aspect, it is possible to rescue the characteristics of tools such as the in-depth interview and the focus group technique, which contribute to the design of effective tools for the next stage of an investigation dedicated to the analysis today of the function of the text material in and out of the classroom.
