Abstract

Reading and writing are vital processes in students literacy since during the learning processes of elementary education, high school and university reading comprehension becomes a basic element to code and encode the meaning of any text they read. Nevertheless, the results of Mexico´s International tests like PISA (Program International Student Assessment) show that only the 0.3% of students reach level one, the highest, in reading comprehension and the 42% are in level two, very basic comprehension. Reading incomprehension in students 15 years old students does not vary much from college students. The study was conducted in a private teacher training University from Chihuahua City through the application of an instrument to evaluate reading comprehension of academic texts based in Guerra and Guevara (2013), wich is structured in 3 big areas: sociodemographic profile, individual reading, and questioning. Through a quantitative analysis comparing the results of first semester students to tenth semester was found that the differences are minimum. Reading comprehension is deficient in a  way in the students that start the bachelors.
