Abstract
Currently, the admission to public universities is a problem for young students; this is because only a limited amount of applicants is accepted. For example, at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), 91.06% of the applicants are rejected, and at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMex) 66.08% of the applicants are rejected. This research aimed to establish the acceptance into a superior level of education for the graduates from the school Plantel Pablo González Casanova, UAEMex, during the EXANI II 2016 test. The results indicate that, from the 506 graduates from Plantel Pablo González Casanova who applied, 69.8% was rejected. The students who were accepted represent only 30.2%. The skills evaluated are pensamienta matemático, PMA (mathematical thinking); pensamiento analítico, PAN (critical thinking); competencias comunicativas del español: estructura de la lengua, ELE (Spanish communicative skills: language strcture); and comprensión lectura, CLE (Reading comprehension). The average of the PMA was 54.1%, PAN was 54.8%, ELE was 54.6%, and the CLE was 64.0%. These results exceed the national and state median, whose values are under 52.0 points in each evaluated skill. 60.7% of the appliers obtained less than 60 points. This score is categorized as an unacceptable level. 31.0% scored in a sufficient level with a score between 61 to 80 points. On the other hand, 8.3% of the students were placed in an outstanding level with a score between 81 to 100 points. Considering this situation, the managing and the teaching teams of the school must collaborate and strategize to increase the number of accepted students to a superior level education, while remaining focused on the development of the evaluated skills.
