Abstract

This communication presents partial results of the work of degree based on the Meaningful Learning Theory and the  Buck Institute For Education (BIE) proposal for the design of a project about genetics and using bioethics as an alternative to bring students to their understanding . This work is of a qualitative nature and it is part of the interpretive case study. In addition, the conceptual map is used as a tool to investigate the students' previous ideas. The application of the research was carried out with students of the ninth grade of at Institución Educativa Alfonso Upegui Orozco in the city of Medellín, Colombia. This investigation initiates from the identification of some problems related to the context of action and the reports found in the literature review. Some of the results obtained show erroneous conceptions about concepts associated with the field of genetics and the relationships that students establish between the principles of bioethics and applications in the field of genetics (mutations and genetically modified organisms).
