Abstract

This paper starts from the social functioning of universities to create and disseminate knowledge derived from research that solves problems and leads to a scientific literacy, that for Gil Pérez and Vilches (2006) should be an objective of citizen education, an element basic for the development of people. Scientific education has been focused on training scientists, it is the University's task to encourage and give guidelines to increase scientific writing (Becerra Gallego and Rodríguez Morales, 2013), specifically generated by university professors that are part of the National System of Researchers (NSR), in order to reach citizens through the written press, managing to influence public awareness as a way to reach development. The objective of the research was to determine the causes that promote or inhibit researchers from public universities of the State of Chihuahua, Mexico, publishing scientific-academic content in the written press. Data were collected at two public universities in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico: the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (AUCH) and the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez (AUCJ), recording the actions of their researchers and the means of dissemination they use. The scientific-academic production of university professors with SNI membership of both institutions was analyzed, as well as the internal and external factors that intervene in the communication of science in the different dissemination media.
