Abstract

It is an imperative need for a university that the scholar statistics are subject to a systematic analysis, that gives information helpful to face the new challenges, in a way to allows didactic development to support itself on the conclusions offered by these types of studies. For the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras from the Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua is of utmost importance to know the challenges the students face, particularly during the first phase of their undergraduate degree. The objective of this research is to detect the institutional factors and the environment that contribute to successful or unsuccessful academic trajectories of the students in the faculty from 2007-2009. This research project proposes the study of a series of variables such as previous scholar trajectory, sociodemographic and economic profile, family and social networks, health, academic skills and institutional factors. All of this with the purpose of knowing the impact of these factors on the students’ academic performance and reveal the causes of success or failure. During its first phase, quantitative data was collected, which took us to determinate the scholar indexes concerning the students. In the second phase, an instrument will be applied to a randomly selected 131 students sample, the analysis of internal and external factors will proportionate the elements leading to decision making.
