Abstract

This paper presents different explanations of the existing ties between the educative systems and economic, cultural and political structures (Apple, 1979; Bowles & Levin, 1968; Heyneman & White, 1986, Muñoz & Ulloa, 1992; Saha, 1983; Theisen, et. Al., 1983). Focusing particularly on the theme of inequality in education and its correlation to social inequality. Two central questions were asked: (a) What’s the inequality level in education in Chihuahua utilizing as variable the populations schooling rate?; (b) What’s the variation in education inequality in Chihuahua between the years 2000 and 2010? Utilizing the census data taken from the INEGI database to estimate the Gini index taking the schooling rate of a 15+ years old population sample at a state level in Chihuahua. The results show a profound asymmetry in the population regarding schooled education, since two-thirds of the population receive approximately 50% of said “social good”, meanwhile the other third have only acquired the other half. Regarding the second question, the same level of inequality was obtained in estimations made by Muñoz and Ulloa (2993) ten years prior with data from the year 2000s census. Recommendations are made to widen and deepen the topics and estimations discussed in this paper.
