Abstract

To recognize and comprehend what the teachers represent socially within the academic system, it is necessary to maintain an approach to their teaching practice inside and outside the school itself, starting from an elementary knowledge about the various essential functions that are expected to carry out throughout their academic practice. The teaching work is immersed in a complicated dynamic due to the fact that there are several and diverse functions that must be assumed by teachers of multigrade schools inside the classroom. Basto (s / f) also mentions those that are added by the official administrative structures, as well as by the society itself, which at times encourage them to move away from their goal of teaching, due to the time they must spend to meet such demands. One of the purposes of this research was to approach the role of teachers in their daily work, to identify and understand the tasks performed, beyond their main function of being responsible for the teaching and learning process. With the information provided, it was possible to establish and describe the problems faced by teachers within the context where they develop their pedagogical work, by visualizing and defining the level and frequency of some of the functions they perform during their teaching. Within these functions performed by the teachers of the multigrade schools, we find those corresponding to the administrative, sociocultural and community works area among others.
