Abstract

This paper is about a close-up to the indigenous raramuri immigrant's reality who work as trash collectors; inserted in that dynamic by the economic system, which involuntarily forces them to leave behind their history and cultural identity, putting at risk their vision of the world. The Raramuri are under geographical displacement due to poor economic conditions, cold, extreme rain, as well running from the violence dominating the mountainous zone, not taking in consideration the cultural problems which further enhance injustice and inequality. They represent one of the less favored groups in the city’s outskirts. Self-employing themselves and risking their health every day by living and working in miserable conditions, as society looks at them indifferently. This paper proposes ways to denounce the different shapes of marginality wrapped around those who work at the city landfill, to open the possibility of questioning the society and economy in which we live in. The results are shown in two analytical categories, the first one “Immigration to exclusion” and the second one “Marginality as a state of exception” in education, health, and work-related environments.
