Genealogy of decoloniality in the Raramuri people

Abstract

The history positioned from modernity casts a shadow over the decolonial meaning of the worldview and rebellions of native peoples against the racism perpetrated by the colonizers, contributing to a dominion and permanent subjection. This study shows the epistemological shift from a modern history to a critical historicity that reveals decolonial practices. To this end, we make use of the theoretical framework that supports Latin American critical thinking, French post-structuralists and postcolonial thinkers of the Caribbean, India and the Middle East. This work has two purposes, first, to reveal the different forms of coloniality, intertwined in the project of modernity, manifested through the dimensions of power, knowledge, and being; used in the past, in the conquest of America and in territorial and ethnic Rarámuri conquest; and given its legacy, at the present, by the nation-states subordinated to the promises of the projects of globalization and neoliberalism as neoliberal identity builders that oppress this ethnic group. And second, make visible decolonial manifestations against submission and liberation. Unraveling the genealogy of the Rarámuri de-coloniality in its original worldview, in the violent revolts of the XVII century against the Spanish conquerors, allows us to propose the study of the origins of psychology as a method to signify its original cultural subjectivity/identity, to confront the devaluation by racialization that other social groups force unto them, as they originate from modernity coloniality from the conquest to the present.
